It has been a really exciting first two weeks in ISM. I've only physically sat in the ISM classroom 5 times now, but I already feel I've learned so much about this class and how it functions. At first it was a little overwhelming, seeing every assignment for the first marking period and their due dates only a few weeks away, but I'm now at the point where I understand at least the basics, and I've gotten into a routine every period where by the end of class, I feel like I accomplished something when I leave, which is really rewarding. My first major speech was last week. As nervous as I was, it went by painlessly and more than just starting to gain confidence speaking in front of my classmates, it was also fascinating to hear everybody else's topics. I had been told previously how diverse the interests of the class would be, but it wasn't until hearing everyone's speeches that I really learned how varied they all were, and still how much passion they could foster. Although I would never choose to voluntarily study physics, it was still cool to see someone get as animated about that as I figure I probably do with nonprofit law. As much as I'm ready to start learning more about my specific topic, I also can't wait to see how all of my peers do this school year. I think it'll be as inspiring to see them succeed and learn as it will to be doing it myself. In the upcoming weeks, I would also really like to start getting ahead more. Even though there was no point in these first two weeks that I felt behind, I still want to find a way to manage my time so I don't ever get caught off guard with fast-approaching due dates. Overall, ISM has been great so far. I've gotten to know my classmates, given a speech, created a website, and I can't wait to see where the year goes from here.
