It's the end of the fourth six weeks! I truly can't believe how fast this year has gone, especially with ISM. I feel like my first few weeks where I was so confused and didn't know where to begin just happened, but in actuality, the year is almost over. As far as working on my Final Product, I've begun to compile common questions and I'm taking notes at every client meeting I've sat in on. I'm hoping that the information I'm taking in will really help me when I start to put together the actual pamphlet. Aside from that, it's now time that I consider ISM for next year. Actually, I probably should've worked more on the application earlier on, but I've been really conflicted about my classes for next year. Because of that, I haven't yet completed the application. Still, I'm ready to do it now and I've decided that I'm very excited for the possibilities another year in ISM can offer. Next year, I really want to observe local government. I came into this year with the goal of helping people, and I definitely succeeded in finding a profession that did that. Still, I want to explore a variety of ways to achieve that, and I think that local government will be a great way to go about that. I'm encouraged about everything still to come.
This week I went on another great mentor visit. I got the opportunity to sit in on a client visit Anna had with one of her clients in which she went over the divorce decree and discussed all of the legal language. I really enjoyed this visit because I felt like it was the first time that I really got to see Anna in her element, as a lawyer. I saw her interpersonal skills truly in action, and it was inspiring to me to watch her in her comfort zone. As far as the other things I've been working on this week, I've honestly been taking it a little easier. I think that I needed these last few weeks to recharge after the crazy weeks leading up to and after the Research Showcase, and I'm glad that I had this time to get back into the routine of going on mentor visits and getting work done is ISM every single week. After this three day weekend, I think I'll be fully prepared to embrace the Final Product and all the work that it will entail. Overall, I truly can't believe that I only have a few more months with this mentor and this first year in the program. I feel like I'm just now completely comfortable in what's going on, and soon, it'll be coming to an end. I realize I'm speaking a little hyperbolic, but I know that once Spring Break hits, everything goes extremely fast until the end of the year from there. Still, it's been a great week.
This week was definitely a lot less chaotic in regards to how busy I've been recently in my classes in ISM. I went on a mentor visit earlier in the week and it was really eye-opening. For the first time since I've started the mentorship, I got to see Anna actually interacting with a client. On my visit, she let me sit in on a meeting she had with one of her clients going over the results of a court case that had been decided. Having the opportunity to actually be there in person while she interacted professionally like she does every week was so fascinating. I feel like every time I think that I know what's going one and have gained the knowledge I can about something, another door is opened and I start all over with new information. This meeting was so interesting because I got to see the way Anna handled herself professionally, which surprisingly was quite different from how I feel like she has conversations with me. Being able to sit in and gain this intangible knowledge was so interesting. In addition to this mentor visit, we are also solidifying my plan for my Final Product. She completed the mentor evaluation on the product proposal I sent her and knowing her thoughts and what she thinks will benefit this project is making me even more excited about what's to come.
