After what feels like a really long time, I finally have some interviews this week. I was supposed to have one last Friday, but unfortunately it was rescheduled for tomorrow. Honestly, this year has stressed me out a lot in ISM. Obviously I love the class and am learning so much from it, but the work I have to do with ISM combined with everything I'm doing for my classes and college applications, I just feel under a lot of pressure. As a whole though, I'm really excited about studying local government, and as with every week, am only more excited for what I still have to learn, especially with interviews coming up.
As for next week, I can't wait for the Business Symposium. I think that's a true example of how much this year is overwhelming me because the Symposium feels so fast from the beginning of the year. I can't believe I'm already a sixth of the way done with the year and that everything is approaching so quickly. I haven't even had an informational interview, and my Original Work proposal is due in a few weeks. I'm definitely looking forward for everything to come, but the urgency I need to work with doesn't escape me either. For my second week of this blog, I'm really starting to re-familiarize myself with ISM and the routine that comes with it. For example, I kind of neglected how hard it would be to get interviews scheduled, and now I'm regretting not having them firmly set sooner. Thankfully, everything somewhat came together at the last minute and I will have interviews to go on, but for this past week I was in kind of a scramble to get some interviews on my calendar. I've also completed my first two Research Assessments of the year, and I can already tell that local government will be a really exciting thing for me to study this year. Although I learned so much from studying public interest law last year, it was never really my inner passion to study that, whereas political science and city demographics fascinate me a lot and I'm looking forward to going deeper into the subjects throughout the year. I have my first interview this Friday with former Frisco mayor, Maher Maso, and I can't wait to see what he says not only about working in Frisco, but also about working in development since that's what he now does for Prosper. As a whole, it's been a good week, and I can't wait for this next one!
It is so good to be back in the routine of writing weekly blogs! This year in ISM has been exciting because while it's crazy to be the one that knows her way around and is able to help others for help instead of always requesting it, I still feel that classic ISM awareness of being overwhelmed by everything to do. I remember last year how the constant due dates and never-ending assignments could really stress me out sometimes, but the good news is that my second time around, I'm feeling a lot better about everything on my plate. I'm much more confident than I was last year, like with requesting interviews with professionals, which is what I'm working on now. Knowing that we only have to have three required interviews instead of five is nice, and I'm trying hard to schedule interviews with professionals in local government. Interviewing was actually one of my favorite parts of ISM last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if I go over the 3-interview minimum. All in all, it's really exciting to be back. I'm coming into this year with a passion for my field and a self-assurance after already doing ISM once, which I think will translate to a great few months ahead. Hopefully this time next week I'll have some firmly scheduled interviews, and when I do, this blog will be the first to know!
